We are delighted to announce that Yale University has become the Hydra Project’s 18th formal partner.

Susan Gibbons, the University Librarian, tells us that Yale made a decision in fall 2012 to use Hydra as a development platform for their digital collections. The first Hydra-based collections are due to go live in September 2013 and there is an “aggressive plan” to migrate dozens of additional collections from obsolete platforms to Hydra in 2014 along with several new ones. Many of the collections involve complex objects, non-Western languages and have highly granular access requirements.

We greatly look forward to the collaboration. Welcome Yale!

We are delighted to announce that Duke University has become the Hydra Project’s 17th formal partner.

In their Letter of Intent, Duke say:

“One of Duke’s core principles is “knowledge in the service of society.” Interwoven throughout the educational curriculum and research enterprise of the university is a culture of public engagement with real-world issues. One way the Libraries have sought to embody this value is by promoting open access to scholarly research as an institutional priority. We strongly believe that when scholarly research is freely available, it has the potential to reach more people, accelerate new discoveries, and make a bigger impact on the world.

“We see the Hydra Project as an opportunity to leverage the substantial investment we and our partner institutions have already made in preserving the knowledge that is generated on our campuses and sharing it with the world.”

Welcome, Duke!!!
